Sex trafficking is a type of human trafficking and is a form of modern day slavery. Sex trafficking is actually defined by the "Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000" as the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, obtaining, patronizing, or soliciting of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act.” It involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to make an adult engage in commercial sex acts. There are over 22,000 verified trafficking victims and survivors in the United States in 2019. The actual number of unverified victims is in the tens of thousands. 

The mission of the Road to Purity apostolate is awareness, education, and healing from pornography and sex addiction. As sex trafficking is heavily linked to pornography, it impacts our mission in a core way. To embrace this truth, each day of this 9-day Novena we help demonstrate the connection between pornography and sex trafficking.
